***DUE TO RAIN IN THE FORECAST, THIS EVENT HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12 at 12 pm***
The Kiawah Conservancy and Kiawah Island Golf Resort invite you to volunteer with us to harvest salt marsh grass seeds as part of our restoration efforts in the Kiawah River Watershed. Volunteers will collect seeds from Spartina alterniflora (smooth cordgrass), which is the dominant plant species found in the tidal salt marsh of South Carolina. The seeds will be cultivated and grown off-site, then planted into the marsh in the spring.
The group will meet in the parking lot of Mingo Point at Kiawah Island Golf Resort (876 Kiawah Island Parkway). From there we will divide into smaller groups to harvest in various locations along the marsh edge. Mud boots are strongly suggested as we'll be working among the grasses in the marsh and the ground will be wet.
All harvesting materials will be provided. Bug spray and sunscreen are always recommended. Don't forget a water bottle to stay hydrated. Click on the button below to register and email Katie Warner at katie@kiawahconservnacy.org with any questions.
