KIAWAH ISLAND LITTER SWEEP - Mingo Point (876 Kiawah Island Parkway)

Kick off Earth Week by taking action to protect our planet and local wildlife! The group will meet in the parking lot of Mingo Point. From there, we’ll divide into small groups and help clean up Kiawah. All pickup materials will be provided.

BLUEBIRD WALK - The Sanctuary (1 Sanctuary Beach Drive)
Registration required.
Bluebird box monitoring volunteers Kim Anuszkiewicz and Peggy Barnes will lead a 1-hour walk around the grounds of The Sanctuary to visit some of Kiawah Island’s volunteer-monitored nest boxes. Come and learn why they are important to the Eastern Bluebird. The group will meet in front of the chapel at The Sanctuary. Please bring a water bottle, bug spray, and appropriate clothing for a walk outdoors.

COME ABOARD WITH COLLIE - Rhett's Bluff Boat Landing (102 Rhett's Bluff Road)

Join the Kiawah Conservancy’s Land Preservation Specialist, Collie Farah, for a 2-hour boat tour along the Kiawah River. On this tour, you will have the opportunity to view some of the local wildlife and get a unique look at several of the Conservancy’s preserved lands. This tour is open to Kiawah Island property owners only. Please remember to bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and bug spray.

GARDEN WALK - Naturally Kiawah Demonstration Garden, Night Heron Park

Join the Kiawah Conservancy’s Restoration and Enhancement Specialist, Sean Cannon, as he leads a 1-hour walk through the Naturally Kiawah Demonstration Garden in Night Heron Park. Sean will also be joined by Kiawah Conservancy’s Horticultural Specialist, Morgan Henkel. On this tour of the garden, Sean and Morgan will share insightful information about native plants that grow well on Kiawah. Their knowledge and expertise will be sure to inspire you to restore nature in your landscape!

LEARNING WITH LEE - The Preserve (Blue Heron Pond Road)

Join Kiawah Conservancy’s Sr. Ecological Health and Conservation Coordinator, Lee Bundrick, on a walk among maritime forest, saltmarsh, and lagoon habitats within The Preserve. This 2-hour walk will begin with a discussion about the Naturally Kiawah Recognition Program and how you can improve the ecological health in your yard. Then, you’ll walk the 1 mile along the trails through the Preserve and end at the lookout tower where you’ll have a chance to take pictures and soak in the natural beauty of the island. The group will meet in the parking lot off of Grey Widgeon.

LEARNING WITH LEE - Betsy Kerrison Nature Park (4368 Betsy Kerrison Parkway)

Join Kiawah Conservancy’s Sr. Ecological Health and Conservation Coordinator, Lee Bundrick, at Betsy Kerrison Nature Park for a walk among the maritime forest, saltmarsh, and hummock island habitats on Johns Island. Lee will be discussing recent land preservation efforts along Betsy Kerrison Parkway, the significance of protecting natural habitats with the Kiawah River Watershed, and the natural habitats on the recently protected properties. This 2-hour walk will begin at 4368 Betsy Kerrison Parkway (the site of the former Rosebank Farmstand). It will continue with a trek through the undeveloped forest and saltmarshes to access the hummock islands. The properties on this walk do not have cleared walking trails or boardwalks and will be partially in the marsh, therefore, it is highly recommended to wear mud boots.

Join the Kiawah Conservancy and presenting sponsor Kiawah Island Golf Resort for an Earth Day Celebration in Night Heron Park. Enjoy live music, local vendors, live animals, a native plant giveaway, local artists and artisans, face painters, kids crafts, and more. It is sure to be fun for the whole family!
This year's Earth Day Village will flow from the Naturally Kiawah Demonstration Garden to the Heron Park Nature Center. We are excited to present live music from the Hot Club of Charleston and tent talks from local organizations sharing information about the amazing work being done to protect our environment. Don't miss your chance to get up close and personal with live animals provided by the South Carolina Aquarium and Heron Park Nature Center. There will also be an exciting flight demonstration by The Center for Birds of Prey at 5 pm.
A special Earth Day menu will be available for purchase from The Nest Market | Café. Please help us in our efforts to minimize plastic waste by bringing your refillable water bottle. Water refill stations will be conveniently located throughout the park. Or, enjoy a refreshing lemonade available at the Nature Center.
This event is open to the public, free to attend, and no registration necessary.
